Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the name for a group of lung conditions that cause breathing difficulties.

It includes:

  • emphysema – damage to the air sacs in the lungs
  • chronic bronchitis – long-term inflammation of the airways

Patients with COPD are reviewed on an annual basis by a nurse. It is absolutely essential that a person stops smoking with this condition. We do run smoking cessation clinics at the practice.

The following is a selection of YouTube clips explaining the condition further. The clips on Inhalers, Breathlessness, Exercises at home to help and Chest clearance have been produced by CPFT Community Respiratory Nurses.
